John Dewey was born on October 20, 1859 in Burlington, Vermont and graduated in 1879 from The University of Vermont. After graduation Dewey taught high school and published in the Journal of Speculative Philosophy. In 1884 Dewey resumed his studies and earned a Ph. D. from John Hopkins University.
